Sequins, Stars & Skulls

Anyone who's been reading Style Spot for a while knows how much I love sequins. Yesterday, I even ordered a silver sequined pillow case for my new living room. Therefore, I absolutely adore this first look from the editorial "Bagno A Ripoli" styled by Caroline Blomst and photographed by Daniel Troyse for LUISAVIAROMA. What makes me love it even more is the way it is teamed with a scarf by Alexander McQueen. I have been meaning to get myself one of those scarves for ages, and now might just be the time to do so.

Also, I could not help falling in love with this look below. The star-printed pieces that Dolce & Gabbana showed off in their A/W 2011 collection have been growing more and more on me each day. The print looks especially good next to a simple, elegant blouse such as this white one by Balmain. Gahh, I really love this look, and I really want to wear something similar right now.

Hailey Clauson by Sebastian Kim for Numéro #124

I find these two images from Numéro #124 so mesmerizing. I love how photographer Sebastian Kim has captured Hailey Clauson with his lens - as a tribal woman with a modern twist. The photos gleam of ferocious instincts and of nature elements, but together with the stunning Burberry Prorsum studded jacket (photo no.1) and the gorgeous dress by Christian Dior (photo no.2) it oozes of elegance and luxury. I applaud stylist Charles Varenne for his talent of combining these two very contrasting elements so perfectly!

The images made me instantly think about Lykke Li's music video for her song "Get Some". Lykke Li is one my favourite artists, both when it comes to music and vision. If you haven't seen the video before, watch it, and if you have, watch it again. It is so brilliant.

Blake Lively for US Glamour July 2011 

For the July issue of US Glamour, Blake Lively is the chosen star for their cover. Inside the magazine one will find an editorial of her photographed by Terry Tsiolis, and I have to say that I find these images so stunning. Blake reminds me a lot of Brigitte Bardot with her big, blonde hair and the dark, sexy eye make-up. Also, the clothes are perfect for Blake - she wears the pieces from Stella McCartney, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Missoni with such confidence.

Also in the magazine, there is an interview with Blake, where her friend and the musician, Florence Welch (from Florence + The Machine) asks her the questions. It really is such a sweet and wonderful interview. These are some of my favourite parts:

About her role at Chanel: It's such an honor. When I found out I got the job, you and I went to dinner and concocted this plan, like two little girls at a tea party, saying "Oh, it would be the best if we had a party. And you'll perform, and we'll have it in Paris." Like you and I were in charge of Chanel!


About not having a stylist: I'd go to fashion shows and call my publicist and say, "Can I wear that?" I think I became my own stylist by not knowing any better. And once I was told it was time to get one, I thought: This is one of my favorite hobbies! And I'm going to pay someone to steal my hobby from me? That's a terrible idea!

About her self-confidence: Well, I have a strong sense of myself. That gives me a sense of security, you know? If I define myself by things that are always changing, like the public's opinion or what I'm wearing or what job I'm doing, there's no stability in that.

Karmen Pedaru for Vogue Paris June/July 2011

I am so loving what I have seen of the June/July issue of Vogue Paris so far. Yesterday, I posted the wonderful editorial featuring Isabeli Fontana, and today I just have to post the gorgeous photos of Karmen Pedaru shot by Cédric Buchet. I really like how Anastasia Barbieri has mixed together rich, blue pieces together with shiny, exclusive gold accessories - such a good combination, especially for summer and sunkissed skin.

Anja Rubik by Josh Olins for Vogue Japan June 2011

Anja Rubik is one of my favourite models. And this editorial, shot by Josh Olins for the June issue of Vogue Japan, proves exactly why I love her so much. Her poses, her facial expressions, the way she shows off the clothes at their very best is just excellent. Also, the combination of Anja and stylist Sissy Vian is a match made in heaven. It looks as if Anja was born in those clothes.

Bambi Northwood-Blyth for Oyster #92

When spring and summer arrives, I get all crazy for colours. The brighter, the better is my motto. I especially get a thing for bold neon colours, and there is not much that can beat a neon yellow dress teamed with sun-kissed skin. That is why I am gushing over the Miu Miu dress from their S/S 2011 collection, seen in the first photo. Teamed with a belt by Ellery (which I have been lusting for months!), this is one of the best looks I have seen for this season.

Even though the Gucci look in the last photo is well-known and often used outfit for this season, it is still lovely to see it on a model such as Bambi. She adds a little edge to it, which such a glamorous outfit is in need of at times. These photos, shot by Bec Parsons and styled by Imogene Barron, are great inspiration for the spring and summer months!

Kate Moss for Vogue Japan May 2011

Yesterday, I posted the cover of the Vogue Japan May 2011 issue with Kate Moss as the cover star. She also has an editorial inside the magazine, Perfection in Couture, which is shot by Mert & Marcus. Styled by George Cortina, Kate wears couture pieces from Armani Privé and Christian Dior Haute Couture. The editorial exudes sophisticated glamour, sexy moodiness and flirty elegance - a combination which is hard to master all in one. However, Kate excels at this, which definitely makes her Kate the Great.

Modern Warrior

In the March 2011 issue of Harper's Bazaar Korea, photographer Dancian has shot a wonderful editorial called Modern Warrior. Ruby Aldridge, styled by Mirim Lee, only wears pieces from the Spring/Summer 2011 collection by Burberry Prorsum - a collection that I am head over heels in love with. I am especially obsessed with the studded leather jacket in the first photo. It must be the queen of all leather jackets. If I owned it (I wish!), I would wear it with everything and never ever take it off. It might be a bit uncomfortable sleeping in it though...

White for Summer

White, and preferably all-white, is a major trend for the S/S 2011 season. Editorials with this theme has been seen in many fashion magazines lately, and one of the latest editorials is shot by Camilla Akrans (my favourite fashion photographer!) for the April issue of Harper's Bazaar US. Model Toni Garrn wears white, dreamy summer pieces by Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Rick Owens. All these pieces would be perfectly welcome in my summer 2011 wardrobe, merci.

Demarchelier for Vogue Germany April 2011

Some of the editorials featured in the April issue of Vogue Germany has been posted online, and I have to say that I am very impressed with what I have seen. The issue consists of editorials by Peter Lindbergh, Paola Kudacki and Victor Demarchelier. Demarchelier shot one of the editorials that really caught my eye, "Stay cool" featuring Bianca Balti. The reason why is because of the cool, rock-chic outfits. I always get weak for such editorials!

Leather in Elle Russia February 2011

Last post, I mentioned the love for the leather pieces by the Swedish label, House of Dagmar, and this time it's all about the leather pieces by Chanel, Blumarine and Bel Air featured in Elle Russia February 2011. I want every item. Leather pieces are those pieces of clothing that you really should invest in, as leather is timeless. A great leather skirt looks so chic and fabulous with a sheer, white shirt (or a grey shirt with a plunging neckline as in look 1), and a fitted leather jacket is an essential in every wardrobe, as it is perfect to make an outfit more rough and edgy.

Jessica Stam ranks high when it comes to my favourite models, and this editorial from the January 2011 edition of Vogue China shows why. I admire the way she often is able to portray a strong, confident character in her editorials, and her blue eyes are extremely powerful. I have this vision of how a young, successful photographer looks like, as I have always seen it as an exciting and glamorous occupation, and Jessica Stam's editorial fulfills this vision perfectly.

Bal Masqué

Vogue Paris celebrates 90 years now in October, and of course editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld knew how to throw an elegant party in its honour. When I first saw this cover and the following editorial, I knew that no other theme is as perfect as "a masked ball" for the magazine. For me, a masked ball is sexy, dangerous, risky and exciting - everything that Vogue Paris is. Happy 90th birthday!
