The 2011 MET Gala: Liv Tyler in Givenchy

I was very happy to see a dress from Givenchy's S/S 2011 Haute Couture collection. I wish that more the stars that attended had gone for more bold statement pieces such as this - this is the kind of gowns we want to see. Ahh, maybe next year. Anyway, I am so happy to see Liv Tyler in this dress. She wears it without a flaw. It looks as if it was made for her. I adore how she has teamed the dress with a little yellow clutch to match the detailing of the back. Simply stunning.

Who were your favourites of the night?

The 2011 MET Gala: Michelle Williams in Miu Miu

One of the dresses that really paid tribute to Alexander McQueen, was the custom made Miu Miu dress that Michelle Williams wore. Seeing the golden birds on her gown, made me instantly think about McQueen's great inspiration when it came to birds. Images of McQueen's S/S 2008 collection, containing the iconic dress with eagle wings covering the top half, and the white - and black swan dresses from his A/W 2009 collection, pop up in my head. I really do applaud Miu Miu and Michelle Williams, as they achieved the main aim for the evening; waking our thoughts, and honoring the true and incredible artist that McQueen was.

The 2011 MET Gala: Leelee Sobieski in McQueen

Actress Leelee Sobieski wore a white, floaty and dreamy gown by Alexander McQueen. I love how simple, but yet dramatic, it is. The tailoring is superb, and my favourite detail is the plunging neckline vs. lots of material. It makes it very sexy without looking tacky. Also, the golden leaf belt around her waist adds a Grecian touch to it, making her look like an amazing Greek goddess.

The 2011 MET Gala: Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

Diane Kruger is one of those women who you know will turn up at an event and always look good. This time was no exception. Diane showed up wearing a gorgeous, sexy gown designed by Jason Wu. The combination of the dress, the hair, the make-up and the jewelry made her look like a true old Hollywood starlet. If I was Diane, I think I would wear dresses with such thigh-high splits all day, every day to show off those incredible legs.

The 2011 MET Gala: Zoe Saldana in Calvin Klein

This dress from the Calvin Klein Collection has been both praised and criticized. Some claim that it is too simple for the MET Gala, while others say that the colour and the shape look amazing on Zoe Saldana. I have to agree with both claims. I wish she had gone for something more daring and a bit more wild. We all know she can pull it off after she wore the purple pom pom Givenchy dress at the 2010 Oscars. At the same time, I can't help but love the colour. I mean LOVE it. Therefore, this is one of the outfits that stood out. So fresh, and so fit for summer!

The 2011 MET Gala: Sarah Jessica Parker in McQueen

Sarah Jessica Parker was one of the lucky ones who got to wear a piece designed by Alexander McQueen. The dress is taken from McQueen's Fall 2005 collection, where the inspiration for the whole collection was mainly the 60s and iconic women such as Marilyn Monroe, and Hitchcock heroines. When seeing Sarah Jessica Parker in this dress, I had a feeling of that it had found it's rightful owner. It fits her like a hand in a glove, and she embodies the glamour and the confidence to really pull it off. She is a true McQueen woman.

The 2011 MET Gala: Blake Lively in Chanel

Last night, it was time for the annual MET Costume Institute Gala. This year, the MET paid tribute to the late Alexander McQueen. Personally, I was looking very much looking forward to seeing a few selected celebrities in McQueen's designs, and to see how the others interpreted and were inspired by the late designer. The late Isabella Blow once described McQueen and his designs as: "He's a wild bird and I think he makes clothes fly." I think this is a very fitting description of the genius that McQueen was, and therefore I am going to say that I was slightly disappointed in the dresses that were seen last night as people had the chance to go all crazy McQueen-style. However, there were a few outstanding pieces, which I will post, so keep checking back later today for more updates.

One of the outfits that I loved, was Blake Lively in Chanel Haute Couture. She looked like a divine goddess, in my opinion. And Karl Lagerfeld by her side really upped her look. Karl can make any woman look fabulous.
