Why hello there!

I honestly have no idea what exactly she's wearing...but she has a waifish quality despite the vavavoom factor going on. And she looks adorable from behind as well...which I'll post tomorrow.

London snow today: predicted to be cold, for next two weeks...

When I asked Cyn our new partner at Mano Bello how she would best describe her hand-made collection. She replied “Avant Garde Luxury Leather Accessory Obsession"...

shirt/dress

This is a kind of different take on a shirt dress as it's more of a tunic...I'm not completely convinced it worked but I'm not convinced it doesn't...like the knee highs but think a chunkier soled shoe would work better. (or maybe I'm just a little cranky 'cuz it's a cold Monday! ;) )

Blue Monday:Le bleu du Lundi

I had a pretty busy weekend, full of emotions and stuff. Getting stuff ready for Smart Design Mart, everything is tagged and ready to go! I have a little over 200 vintage items collected for the sale + My first ever creation: YeYe detachable collars!

Here is the link to the official Smart Design Mart Blog:

I am very excited but stressed at the same time, this is my first time in a very long time that I will be selling vintage in public, the last time was when I had a shop in Phoenix many years ago. It feels great to have that rush again.

I took a few shots early this morning of what I was wearing, here are the details:

-Nom de Plume dress, UO
-Tee, H&M
-Belt, vintage
-Necklace, The Vamoose
-Tights, Simmons
-Shoes, vintage

J’aime bien l’adrénaline que me procure cet événement!

Voici ce que portais ce matin

Robe – Nom de plume, UO

Tee – H&M

Ceinture vintage

Sautoir – The Vamoose

Collant – Simmons

Christmas is coming...

DSC_0014

self portrait sunday

Playing around with shutter speed here...this is my massively over-sized sweater from H&M and I've been living living living in it in my loft.   I really should have bought like 5 but one will have to do! I am always pulling the cowl up over my face or like a super high collar and it's getting kind of funky...but in this photo you can't tell. If you want to see it clearer and with my new Cougar Boots check out the post on pixie warhol.

After the Jasper Conran show, LFW

I loved this woman's attitude, schlepping the birkin around LFW.

As I focused the camera, looking through the lens, I saw the splint on her forearm "how did you injure your arm?" I asked "carrying the bag?"

"No, pleasuring my husband!"

"Lucky guy"...

"Yes he is" she snapped back.

Perfectly turned out

They say the Devil's in the details and I don't know about that, but it's the details that definitely caught my eye in this instance. I love how the dress has a mirrored rorshach test print and how she added a bold red necklace that kind of does the same thing with just enough of a turquoise accent to bring out that color in the dress. Then her nails (all of them) match the necklace and the delicate fur jacket complements the dress and her skintone. Finally the shoes and bag don't match just enough to work –if you know what I mean!

Shoulder treatment...

I loved this guy's jacket and asked him where it was from and he told me that he found it.

Later, when Luisa saw the photo on my screen she asked "where did he get the jacket?

"He found it"

"What do you mean he found it? he found it in a shop, or he found it in his wardrobe?" or any other of the million other permutations on that stream of thought.

She muttered to herself "he found it" but " Where?"

Brian Stanziale – Fashion Fridays

Brian with Courtney wearing a Brian Stanziale design

Full disclosure: Brian is a dear friend of mine and I adore his designs. Why I felt I needed to state this first thing, I'm not sure but because this is the first post for FF that might smack of nepotism (translation: I am friends with the person I'm profiling) I thought I'd mention it first. That doesn't mean that he isn't the epitome and definition of chic! Just the opposite, actually!
Brian started designing under the label Sloane but has recently changed it to his own name, Brian Stanziale. He takes old pieces and makes them new through re-construction and re-imagining of possibilities.  You can see some of his work firsthand at EVA NYC. Or check out his website here. And of course there are a few more pix on pixie warhol.

Brian's answers to the Fashion Fridays questions!

If you could live in another era, when would it be and why?
The 1930s. The music was amazing and the fashion was great and people could look chic even if they had no money.

What’s your favorite movie?
The Great Muppet Caper!

What is a current obsession?
Lola Albright!-the NEW actress!

Do you read fashion magazines? If so what is your current favorite?
The Times Fashion Mag is Magical!

Describe your style as a friend would.
Homeless Chic

What style/trend (current or past) do you hope is never recycled?
Jam Pants!!!

What style/trend would you like to see come back?
The Side Ponytail... Which is weird, because usually both the side pony and jam pants are found together, but I just can't handle the jamz!!!

Has the internet changed the fashion industry? How?
It totally has, now you can create the illusion of having a way bigger brand then you actually have! And suddenly people all over the world are no longer looking to magazines for their access to genreal fashion info, they can nwo go to a blog that focuses solely on their tastes, which is great... and terrible!

Can we find you on twitter?

what?

finish this sentence:
I love New York because…
all it takes is one phone call to change your life!

Around the Westwood Show & at Lyle & Scott

DSC_0106 Visiting from Germany...

Meanwhile, I was out-and-about last night, in the East End, and dropped in on the Lyle & Scott bloggers event, which was a lot of fun.

In one of the rooms at The Russian Club Studios, where the event was held, a professional photographer had set up a studio and bloggers were invited to have their photo taken in their favourite piece from next spring's collection, to post on their blogs.

Below, a nice example of one of, Lyle & Scott's great graphic knits, which I have always thought looked so modern and which is why these great British knit brands do so well with their heritage collections. It would have looked as good in the mod-era as it does today. Perhaps why last year the company won the Young Fashion Brand of the Year award in the UK, more >>>

Happy Thanksgiving

It's Turkey Day in the USA...and what would Grandma think if you showed up in this? I don't know but I think she's kind of hot. The bra top is slightly odd, but worn with commitment it can work!

Pink and Black : Rose et Noir

Over the weekend I did a bit of sewing for the Smart Design Mart show next weekend! I made some black lace collars, the lace is not quite the same as the turquoise and cream ones, but I really like how they turned out. I found this pink vintage dress last weekend, I paired it with some shiny black leggings form Mango and some 60s two toned shoes.

Well back to my sewing!

xo

P.S!

Here is my favorite song of the week by a lovely yeye girl from Quebec! Her name is Karo, she was one of the only Quebec yeye girls to write her own songs. This song is about a boy who wore a mini skirt, fun fact: Stéphane says she was writing about her boyfriend at the time who was a well know musician who wore a mini skirt for one of his shows.

***

Love the Shades...

DSC_0073
As I took the photo I said who "designed the shades?"

She had no idea?

It seems that she had just found them on the seat of the train she'd traveled up to London on, from Brighton. As we continued to discus her find, she realized that she had forgotten to hand them in, on arrival, at the station-office...Ooops...

Shoesssssssssss

Yes this was taken during NYFW but there were so many great looks then I couldn't get them all up at once. I like the top, the jeans are...jeans, but what I'm obsessed with are the shoes. I'm rather enamored lately with shoes like this that are so architectural. I also think that even though they are so specific eventually they will be dated, that specificity will make them coveted when they're no longer being made. Which is to say they will be collector's pieces. So collect while you can!

CHANNELING: "Streets-of-Fire"....

DSC_0103
"Streets of Fire" was a slightly over-styled early 1980's movie which had an unusual mix, both it's art direction and costumes. A combination of both retro-1950's and 1980's references More>>>

Flipped Out

This photo reminds me of a book I had as a kid that was illustrations of different people split into thirds so you could flip through it and mix it up: put the ladies high heels with a fat man's middle and a little girl's face. The top half and bottom half here are completely incongruous. He also looks like he could kick your a** if you gave him a critique...so I'm not going to do that! I actually think the red skirt is kind of interesting and I'm totally going to steal how he styled his t-shirt with the safety pins! I just might not wear this as an ensemble...but that's just me!
UPDATE: in addition to being a fashion rebel, I was just informed by a reader that the man in the photo is Malcolm Harris who is the founder of The One Dress Project  whose mission is mission is to support global organizations that enhance and protect women's rights, safety, health and well-being. Most excellent.

What's to come at YeYe Vintage Boutique this week...

I would like to thank the lovely Allison Busner for modeling for the shop this week :) I will add these items to the shop by the end of this week. My favorite's this week are the blue and cream silk skirt by a local designer named Jean Claude Poitras the front drapes like a dream. I also adore the first skirt, it is by Aquascutum of London, the best part is that it is reversible. Keep your eyes open!

***

Gardez vos yeux ouverts!
