Good Night, Day

I am pleased to share with you all this little interview I did with Tara-Lynn of Good night, Day.
I have always been a big fan of her knits and have quite a few of my own that I wear all year long, like my knit bras, Alpaca collar and knit sweater. For this collection Tara-Lynn offers us hand knit dip dyed sweaters, chunky textured sweaters, Merino Wool ascots and Alpaca collars and many new colors like nude, plums, corals and turquoise. I have my eye on a turquoise dip dyed sweater that you can see here. Thank you Tara-Lynn for answering my questions and letting me share your beautiful collection of hand knits.

Why the name Good night, day?
Good night, day was chosen after my favorite book by Jean Rhys Good morning, midnight, which was actually taken from an Emily Dickinson poem here, she took the first line I took the last.

When did you first start knitting?
I first taught myself to knit from library books and some online video tutorials. I didn't have anyone around me that knit well enough to teach me at that time. It is something that for me required a lot of patience and just stubbornness that I had to learn this, there was tears too and frustration. I ended up designing my own patterns because I found it difficult to find patterns I wanted to knit and also because I didn't always have the necessary wool or needles required and didn't have the funds, so I just started working with the limited items I did have.

Where is your favorite place?
It would depend entirely on the company and the mood.

How would you describe what you do?
I think of hand knitting as an extremely valuable skill,  and feel it is immensely important that knitting isn't considered something just of the past, or something crafty.

When are you happiest?
I rely on plain fate a lot, & so far I am mostly happy this way, & when I can just stop worrying & stressing so much & just live in the moment that is the happiest (i'm still working on it)

Where do your ideas come from?
I knit organically with wool and colours in mind, as well as the structure around the silhouette, and always envision how it can be worn w/ modern and vintage pieces. I prefer to design and knit patterns that are sustainable and timeless. As well, I am inspired by the things I love, vintage photos, classic films, vintage knitting patterns, style blogs and magazines like Russh, Lula, and Jalouse.

How would you describe your knits in 5 words?
soft, timeless, organic, genuine, sustainable

Good Night, Day is a mini collection based on colors and natural textures. The designs are organic and almost seamless, the construction is entirely hand knit by Tara-Lynn. Color is important, a mood that inspires, like plums, corals, peaches, grey's, black and creme. Wool textures that show the detail and beauty of the hand spun hand dyed quality fibers, like Alpaca, Merino and lambs Wool. As well, new skills of hand dying the knits for one of a kind pieces.
