Summer Sophistication...

DSC_0048
Modern, Fresh, Neat and Sexy Shorts... Love her look
PS: Nice watch but what sunnies should she wear?

Spotted: A Fashion Addict at #LuckySocial @ElsaNYC

Yesterday evening I stopped by the Summer Jam hosted by Lucky Magazine at Elsa's in the East Village. While it was full of stylish blogger chicas (and 2 boys!) I was struck by the casual Cali style of  Lauren Steinger who blogs at DiaryofaFashionAddict.com. While she is not from California she admits that she vibes the West Coast style. Here she's wearing a Helmut Lang knit, bag from Chloe and Auden Necklace –a label I'm not that familiar with but she loves so I'm checking out asap!

Fingers and toes! And there's the rings: chunky, bold, vintage. LOVE THEM! I also love the nail polish which is a new one from Essie but damn if I can remember the name!!!

And lastly a detail shot of the shoes which were the hotly anticipated Julian Louie for ALDO.

With a little help from my friends...

Last Saturday evening I celebrated my belated friends birthday bash with my close friends and the lovely ladies at Citizen Vintage here in Montreal, the girls were so sweet to let us use there space to host this event :)

The mastermind behind all of this was Sarah one of my bestest pals, she runs Cheap Opulence online and at many local events in Montreal and Toronto. Her first surprise as you may know was to bring me Tara-Lynn down from Hamilton who took these photos since I forgot my camera at home because I was so nervous about this event. I am a shy girl believe it or not!

The evening was filled with lots of giggles and photo taking by Citizen Vintage, Jenny and Cheap Opulence posted pictures from the evening too.

Enjoy!

He looked gorgous...

And he seemed flattered but pretended to be coy, when I told him he reminded me of someone back in the 1970's. A guy who told us funny stories of his hustler lifestyle, which involved making the acquaintance of rich old queens who liked glamorous Malaysian/Asian Boys boy(s) at Napoleon's just off Bond St. The club throw-back to the days of Chipps Channon and James Lees-Milne.. The cool people who were into music went to Monkberry’s on Jermyn Street and The Great American Disaster for a burger after club. Both I think may have been owned by Peter Morton... In the days before the Blitz and Zanzibar opened on Gt. Queen St. But then some fashion/arts queens slummed it while looking for rough trade at Shaggeramers…. Anyone out there know Kim Hunt, Francesco Oddie of Islington or Tony Meed of a village called Flitewick? (it was the name on the train station sign at the Blitz owned by Mike Brown)

Blonde in black

Her whole look is clean and simple –without any jewelry and a simple clutch bag. I think she has an interesting look but I'm not entirely convinced by the hat...or maybe it's a trend I've seen too much lately. What do you think of the hat? The look altogether?

Sometimes I need Ruffles...

I love my profession as a ShirtMaker...I truly do. But sometimes I just need to take a break to sew something whimsical.   This dress is one of my original designs...drafted by hand. It is a simple design, so the drafting was fast, fun, and easy...and the sewing was a delight.  Especially since it is for a little girl who is as sweet as can be!

I made these dresses for 4-year old Julianna, who like her little sister Brooklyn are like "adopted grand-daughters" to me :)    Recently when I gave her some shorts and tops I had made for her, she politely asked, "Mrs. Pam, will you please make me some more pretty dresses?"   That little voice went straight to my heart, and the result is the dress you see above, and the one below...

The bright and happy little dress was made with a pattern from the summer 2011 issue of Ottobre Design. I "tweaked" the design a little bit to suit my mood at the moment I was cutting it out...adding a pocket and making the skirt fuller by adding a piece of coordinating fabric.

Next, between sewing shirts for my clients, and filling orders for interfacing...I need to make some new "pretties" for Julianna's little sister, and something nice for their mommy too! And just maybe I'll have a little time left to sew for myself...

Sewing Notes:  Both dresses are made from lightweight 100% cotton fabrics. Bodice facings are interfaced with "ProSheer Elegance" Fusible Interfacing from Fashion Sewing Supply.

Colleen Nika stops traffic in Frank Tell frock

I've "known" Colleen via FB and Twitter for a little while but I actually met her in the real world last week at the Norwood. She is a super cool girl with (obviously) great style who is equally into music and fashion. Here she's wearing a dress by Frank Tell, Raphael Young boots and a Staerk clutch. They are all brilliantbrilliantbrilliant in my estimation.

Belated Birthday

It sure has been a magical fun weekend thanks to Sarah and Tara-Lynn. My lovely friend Sara the mastermind behind my ultimate birthday surprise brought Tara-Lynn over to me in Montreal for the weekend and for my birthday bash that was held at Citizen Vintage.

Stéphane took these pictures of us Saturday morning, it was a bit rainy and then more rainy and some more and more but joy was in the air. He really captured very well the joy we were all having. I am so glad to have a nice boyfriend who is patient with me and takes the time to help me with the things I love doing.

We took so many pictures with Tara-Lynn's camera and could not get them on my computer, so I guess you guys will have to wait till she gets home before I share my photos of the party and everything else we did this weekend.

I was wearing a vintage silk skirt, AA chiffon tank, Good day, night black knitted bra, H&M socks, vintage leather loafers, vintage navy velvet blazer and Black leather Coach bag I picked up in New York. Tara-Lynn was wearing a special edition Isabelle Hayes lace scallop trim blouse (made be me :) vintage clogs, vintage blazer from YeYe vintage and  enim bell bottoms.

Bermonsey, London...

Seemed genuinely surprised I would want to take her pic...

I met this woman on the grounds of Guy's Hospital... When I was a toddler a little older than Tuc's my parents and I took a very small two room flat in the Guinness Buildings on Pages Walk, just off the Old Kent Road in Bermondsey. Built around the 1890’s the estate was made up of three blocks, which comprised 600 dwellings divided by large yards where children ran around and played.

In 1960 residents were moved to other estates so that electricity could be installed... When I watch old Brit movies of the time they look a little depressing almost seedy, one every one likes is Blow Up >>>

What I'm Wearing Now...DVF silk flower jacket & Brahmin bag

I am not overly fond of the little dress –black or otherwise. So in the summer I'm always trying to figure out appropriate yet fun yet still a little glam outfits for going out at night. My favorite this summer is my Diane von Furstenberg cropped jacket paired with denim shorts!  Together they seem to solve the whole casual/dressy conundrum. This jacket has handsewn silk and vinyl "roses" on it so I'm loathe to throw a bag over my shoulder and crush them. My Brahmin Anytime Mini Bag which I got at a recent Vogue Influencer network event works perfectly because I can carry it by the strap or like a wristlet.

I just pair with Paige Denim shorts (formerly jeans I cut myself) and a black three dots tee and Steve Madden heels and I'm out the door!

Urban Rustic Girl...

Love this location which look's like a side-street in a West Country market town... as the house behind seems to keep chickens in front and only 2 min walk from the Israeli Embassy in London >>>

3 styling guys

A few posts back I had a 'back and forth' with a reader about men's fashion being driven by gay boys. I don't know if these guys are gay or straight but I do like their style –both collectively and individually. I ran into them at The Norwood last night at the after party for Beady Eye – which was easily the best event of my week...more on that soon! And happy Friday everyone ;)

Congrats to Monroe Steele

You are the winner of the Deux Lux Gypsy Satchel!

Raquel Reed with friends at Le Bain

I almost never post photos that aren't full length – but there is always an exception to the rule and when I had an opportunity to photograph the lovely Raquel Reed at Le Bain I took it. This girl has the most luminous skin I've ever seen and I love the supersaturated and simple color palette she's working –especially the yellow eyeshadow. Fantastic!

"What do you think about the rise in college tuition fees?"

On Top at Le Bain

This girl looks like a courtesan from another era - or a mash up of eras. The sexiness of the high skirt in front is balanced by the length of it in back and I find the handbag with the long tassel an interesting touch. I saw her last night at Susanne Bartsch and Kayvon Zand's new Tuesday night party at Le Bain at The Standard Hotel. This is quickly becoming my favorite late night weekly party. I can only hope it continues with the mix of people it attracts at least through summer –while we can enjoy the roof!

Style Inspirations : Miu Miu Fall 2011

Miu Miu’s Fall 2011 collection took me a while to get use to, but I have to say I really like the proportions she used for this season and the way she made the collars over sized and unconventional.  I adore the vintage silhouette a mix between 70s and the 20s one of my favorite vintage mixes.

Overall a great collection, maybe not my favorite but different, I really like the use of novelty prints in the dresses and the burnt orange tones paired with gold and silver sparkly shoes.

Vintage Glam

There's wearing retro and then there's embodying an earlier period...I don't know if these girls dress like this 24/7 but I'm always impressed by those who do...regardless I think they're looking good!

Close-Ups...

One of the best gifts Luisa ever gave me was a copy of Ancient Faces . Recently, the same exhibition has been traveling and while visiting relations in France and Switzerland I was delighted to see they had the same book, confirming our similar interests...

If I were going to try categorize the woman in these photos using an "Ancient Faces" metric: The woman above reminds me of the beautiful pale middle-England's born into the ranks of the middle English gentry around the time of Cromwell...

The woman below looks like a duchess...

Bikes, Parks and Grass

Yet an other beautiful day yesterday in Montreal, my favorite time of the day is sunset. The natural light of Summer is my favorite. It was a perfect perk up, I have been kind of down this past week because of the Canada Post lookout and strike.  I hope they get it together soon!

I was wearing my Yarnovermovement  Muddy Puddle merino wool sweater over a pale pink silk blouse. Yarnovermovement is now closed and will reopen as soon as the postal strike is over. The name will change to Good night, day and will have my all time favorites and many new amazing knit designs by Tara-Lynn the owner and designer of the shop.

I love this sweater, since it is knit loosely you can wear it all year long, layered or alone. I really fancy the layered look, the pale pink silk blouse was given to me as a gift from a co-worker last week along with  3 others, they are so soft and comfy and pretty, Thank you Victoria :)

I was wearing:

- Good night, day, merino wool sweater in muddy puddle
-Vintage 80s pale pink silk blouse
-XXI black denim short shorts
-Vintage straw hat
-Vintage Alfred Sung leather back pack
-Vintage leather loafers
-Quartz pendant from Beacon's Closet in Brooklyn
